TA Dugger basketball teams have a successful weekend

Christmas Tournament action started for the four TA Dugger teams over the weekend, with the eighth graders playing round-robin games in the Texas Roadhouse Middle School tournament, held at Jonesborough Middle School, which will go until Dec. 23.
Meanwhile, both JV squads won their respective tournaments at the Daniel Boone Tournament.

TA Dugger wins the 7th Grade Boys JV Championship over Ridgeview

 After beating Chuckey Doak 41-2 and Liberty Bell 38-22, the boys took a one-point victory over the Ridgeview Raptors. In a back-and-forth contest, the Cyclones were able to take a three-point lead into the locker room sparked by a Brycen Blevins three-pointer. The second half would see both Ryan Jones and Legend Pate do a lot of the dirty work pulling down tough rebounds. Jones would turn his rebounds into points as he would turn those into put-backs for lay-ups and help his team take a three-point lead into the final period 30-27. Ridgeview would not go away, hitting a couple of three-pointers to keep the see-saw contest close, but Ryan Jones would hit a couple of short jumpers and hit his free throws to grab the one-point victory in the JV Championship.
Ryan Jones would lead his team with 16 points, while Evan Chambers would chip in 12 and four assists. Brycen Blevins would make the engine go for the Cyclone with six points, four assists and three steals.

TA Dugger wins the 7th Grade Girls JV Championship over Ridgeview

 Daisy Parks would score 25 points to pace her team to the win girls’ championship. The Lady Cyclones JV squad would turn the defensive pressure up in the third period forcing turnovers and holding the Lady Raptors to just one point, taking a nine-point lead into the fourth period. Daisy Parks would hit three of her five three-pointers in the fourth period to push the lead to as many as 20 points. Kiana Adams would pull down some big rebounds in the game, also chipping in six points. Ava Sheets would provide some much-needed defensive pressure. Coach Fox would complement his teams’ efforts and the work of his coaching staff after the game, “ today was a team win; we love to see the future of Cyclone Nation..they put in the work and played with grit and attitude today as long as they do those things they will be better when they get up to high school.”

TA Dugger Boys Sullivan Heights 33 TAD 20 Texas Roadhouse Tournament

 The varsity boys struggled all night to get anything rolling offensively; getting Isaiah Adams in early foul trouble didn’t help, not that the Huskies were offensive juggernauts.
The first period would end on a 5-4 Huskie advantage; the Jr, Cyclones would have plenty of good looks but just could not get the ball to drop. Their struggles would continue in the second period going into the half down 19-8. The Jr. Cyclones would struggle all night with the inside presence of Haydon Musick, who would score 15 on the night, much of that coming off his own rebounds. The Jr, Cyclones would go to a full-court press, closing the lead down to seven after Evan Chambers hit three free throws in a row after being fouled off his three-point attempt. The Huskies would hit a couple of easy lay-ups as they would break the press to rattle off the final seven points.
After the game, head coach Billy Etter talked about what his team needs to do moving forward, “we will see what we are made of; we play again on Monday night; we had beaten them the last two times we had played them sometimes it’s tough beating a team three times in a row, we didn’t shoot well tonight just have to hit some of those open shots.”

Girls Varsity TA Dugger Girls 26 Grandview 23 Texas Roadhouse Tournament

 The Jr. Lady Cyclones would take advantage of their free-throw opportunities to walk away with a 3-point win in their second game of the tournament. The game would be a defensive struggle as both teams would go through long dry spells. The Cyclone would take a one-point advantage going into the locker room after Rylee May hit a couple of free throws. Molly Wallin and May would work inside to grab fouls to push the lead to six before the Eagles would hit a three-pointer to close it back to three.
The Cyclones would struggle from the field going six for 33 in the game but would hit 14 free throws on the day. Rylee May would score 12, going 10 of 12 from the free throw line, Molly Wallen would contribute eight with 15 rebounds.
