Lady Cyclones kick-Off Seahawk Classic with win

The Lady Cyclones kicked off the Seahawk Classic Monday night with a seven-point win over Winter Park High School Monday night, held in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Lady Cyclones jumped out to a 7-0 lead with layups by Renna Lane and Marlee Mathena. Winter Park would storm back after a three-pointer to cut the lead to 9-7 with 2:30 left in the first period. Olivia Holly Would stretch the lead back to 13-7 off a jumper near the free-throw line and then take a seven-point lead after an assist from Lina Lyon to Mathena to end the first period.
Maddie Fowler would push the lead to 22-8 off of a three-pointer and a free throw by Maddie Fowler. Winter Park would storm back with a couple of three-pointers and a layup to make it a one-possession game at the 3:28 mark of the second period. The Cyclones Lina Lyon would be forced to the bench with three fouls with 3:11 left in the second after a layup was called off due to an offensive charge. The Wildcats would take advantage, closing the Lady Cyclone lead down to just two points at the break.
   The Lady Cyclones were able to push the lead to double digits in the third period outscoring the Wildcats 17-6 as they were able to apply defensive pressure and force turnovers. Lyon and Lane were able to hit a couple of three-pointers to help spark the Cyclones third period. The Wildcats were able to close the gap in the final period as Wildcat Jan Childs would hit three three-pointers. Reiley Whitman hit a big three-pointer and Olivia Holly scored five of her ten points in the period to keep the Wildcats at arm’s length. Rena Lane scored 13 and Lina Lyon chipped in 12 to lead the Lady Cyclones. Winter Park’s Jasmine Bocca would lead all scorers with 21.  The Cyclones will next play White County Georgia in the tournament’s semi-final game.
