Donald W. Maloy, 66, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 21, 2022. He was born on May 19, 1956 in Hagerstown, Md. Donald was the son of James E. Maloy Sr. and Patsy Ziegler Maloy. Most knew him as Donnie or Pops.
Donnie was a loving father and grandfather. He had been members of both Roan Mountain Church of Jesus Christ in Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Newland Church of Jesus Christ in Newland, N.C. Donnie was a hard worker most of his life. He gave up his education at a young age to work with his family. In his early years Donnie served in the U.S. Navy.
Donnie held many jobs throughout his lifetime, but his lasting career was as a CNA. Donnie worked in many nursing homes before he decided to stay home and be his wife’s CNA. He cared for her until her passing in 2019. He has spent his last few years at Ivy Hall where he has enjoyed playing bingo and the fellowship of Ivy Hall staff. He thought of them all as family.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father, James E. Maloy Sr.; his mother, Patsy Zeigler Maloy; his wife, Angela B. Maloy; his brothers, Robert, James and Ronald; a son, Dennis Lee Barnard III; and a grandson, Dennis Lee Barnard IV.
He is survived by his son, John W. Barnard (Joann) of Hagerstown, Md.; son, Jack Barnard (Kathy) of Morganton, N.C.; daughter, Dorothy Arnett of Newland, N.C.; daughter, Donielle Maloy of Hagerstown, Md.; daughter, Daisy Diane McKinney (Aaron) of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sister, Debbie Smith; brother, Merle Maloy; brother, Richard Maloy; and an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, from noon until 1 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tenn. Interment will be directly after in the McKinney Cemetery in Elk Park, N.C.
A special thanks to all the faculty at Ivy Hall for loving our dad and making him feel at home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Tetrick Funeral Home.
