On Tuesday the Unaka Rangers got back on the winning track with a decisive 82-64 victory over Happy Valley at Snavely gymnasium in non-conference boys basketball while senior Lyndie Ramsey scored 28 points in leading the Lady Rangers to a 35-26 win over the Lady Warriors.
Guard Mason Wilson scored a game-high 27 points and senior post Landon Ramsey added 21 points and 14 rebounds.
“The thing with Landon is that he doesn’t know how good he can be,” Rangers head coach Aaron Dugger said. “He is the guy that drives us. He plays without fouling and he is on the floor for long stretches without fouling. Mason can shoot and when he gets going he can fill it up.”
Unaka (3-13 overall) took a 16-12 lead in the first period and with a hot second quarter extended to a 40-26 halftime advantage. Wilson had 18 first half points which included four treys.
The Rangers took a 63-45 lead after three quarters never letting the Warriors close to within 15 points. Ron Parker had an amazing second half for Happy Valley (2-12 overall) scoring 22 of his team-high 24 points and he knocked down four triples as well.
“With Marcus (Shomaker) being out we are going to have to have guys step up,” Dugger said. “We need Brayden to step up, Jackson is going to have to step up, and in situations where we are in foul trouble Austin Lambert is going to have to be ready as a freshman to step up.“

Happy Valley opened the game with an 11-8 first quarter lead with Marcida Moore scoring five points and Kadie Bailey adding four, and the Lady Warriors (3-8 overall) kept the lead at the half, 16-13. The Lady Rangers turned up the defensive pressure and Ramsey got hot, scoring 17 second-half points and Unaka (4-12 overall) took a 23-21 third-period advantage.
“We played good team defense, but we didn’t shoot the ball real well,” Lady Rangers head coach Kenneth Chambers said. “We missed a lot of easy shots. Happy Valley did a good job doing what they do. They have three or four really good players, Marcida, Kadie Bailey is a good inside player and Mailey Guy is a good player. Lyndie wasn’t feeling good tonight but she always ends up giving great effort and we expect that from her. Haley Taylor had a good game.”
Moore’s 12 points led the Warriors with Bailey adding seven points.
