Hampton gets the edge over the Warriors in a county clash

Warrior Hill served as the meeting place Friday night in a battle of inter-county foes as both the boys and girls teams got after it.

Hampton jumped out to a 14-4 early lead and poured it on late. The Bulldogs were sparked early by Chance Point and Geno Carrico who scored six of the Bulldogs 18 points in the quarter. At the 4:00 minute mark, Hayden Campbell had an echoing block that brought the Hampton faithful to their feet; Carrico hit a floater to end the quarter with the Bulldogs up by 12. Cadon Buckles started the route with a big three-pointer and Hayden Campbell’s physical presence on the boards and offensive rebounds would cut off any Happy Valley comeback attempt. Ron Parker would hit a layup at the 2:12 mark of the second period to close the lead to 16 before the Bulldogs would go on another run to further distance themselves at the half; Bulldogs 40 Warriors 12.

The second half was more of the same as Hampton would remain relentless on both sides of the court. Hampton would push the lead to 50-21 after a 9-0 run leading 50-21 at the 3:53 mark. The quarter would be highlighted by Brody Hicks who would finish off a three-point play with determination that led to another bulldog run. Buckles finished off the quarter with an eight-foot jumper to push the advantage to 63-27.

 Hampton would get their reserves in the final period but that didn’t mean the scoring would stop. Freshmen guard Tuff Robinson would hit a couple of long distant three-pointers to push the lead to 50. Haydon Campbell finished the night with 15, Micheal Anspaugh would chip in 14 and Buckles would finish the night with 12. Colby Chausse would be the only Warrior with double digits on the night scoring 14.

 The Warriors will travel to South Greene Tuesday night while the Bulldogs will travel to University High.

The Bulldogs would finally put away a pesky Lady Warriors in the final quarter of the girl’s game Friday night. Bulldogs Macy Henry and Warriors Marcida Moore would get their teams going as they both would score six points in the opening frame. The Bulldogs would cling to an 11-9 advantage after the first period thanks in part to a Taylor Berry three-pointer. Madi McClain would get her team rolling in the second period after a couple of three-pointers pushing the Lady Bulldogs out to a ten-point lead at the 5:30 mark of the second period.  Kadie Bailey would hit a three-pointer to keep her team help in it but timely buckets by Taylor Berry and Macy Henry would keep the Warriors at arm’s length 31-19 going into the break.

Kadie Bailey would come out of the locker room and do her best to keep the Lady Warriors in the game cutting the Bulldogs lead to four at one point after hitting her fourth three-pointer of the quarter and 15 total points. Linsey Jenkins would score six in the final quarter (and her 1000 career point) and the Warriors would struggle at the free-throw line as the Bulldogs were finally able to create breathing room and push the lead to 14.

 Macy Henry would lead the Bulldogs with 15 and Madi McClain would score 14 and Jenkins would chip in 12. Warrior Kadie Bailey would lead all scorers on the night pouring in 22 including six three-pointers while Marcida Moore had 18.
