To the Editor:
There are many conditions in which a woman needs an abortion or she will die. Any obstetrician can name these conditions and give you the signs of these complications. (I am personally familiar with a few.) Often, doctors identify a possible problem early in the pregnancy and observes the condition to see how rapidly the situation progresses. Sometimes the condition comes on suddenly or progresses to where immediate action needs to be taken. This may happen early in the pregnancy, long before viability, or later when a fetus has reached development for life outside the womb.
The fetus can quickly kill its host and any delay in its removal is critical to the preservation of the host’s life. In this case, an immediate abortion must be performed, and any delay would result in the death of the woman. Herein lies the problem. With the new anti-abortion laws, women will die because the procedure is delayed because of all the forms and permissions that now must be granted. The decision has been taken from the doctor and the woman and turned over to government rules and regulations.
These new laws will kill women in need of a timely abortion and every person that voted for any government official to overturn Roe v. Wade and/or make laws preventing or delaying an abortion and the woman dies, now has the death of the woman on their hands. Whereas, people were calling women who had abortions, murderers. It is now on the backs of the voters who put the government officials in office to take away abortion rights. These voters and government officials are the new murderers. Women have died and more will die. (And to the person whom you give column after column to spew his untruths, abortion is not the leading cause of death in the U.S. Get your stats correct.)
