Ramsey leads Lady Rangers to conference win; boys team falls to UH

The Rangers made the trip to Johnson City for a conference showdown with University High on Tuesday night, taking one of two games. Lyndie Ramsey added to her career scoring record with 27 points to lead the Lady Rangers to a 51-34 victory over conference foe University High.  Jill Faust and Lyndie Ramsey scored five points each in the first quarter to give the Lady Rangers a 14-4 lead. By halftime, the Lady Rangers would pull away to a 17-point lead led by Ramsey’s 14 points. Priya Lewis would score nine points in the third quarter to get University High within 11, 34-23, but the Lady Rangers would prove to be too much, extending the lead back to 17 to win 51-34. Ramsey would lead the Lady Rangers in scoring, putting up 27 points while hitting 14 out of her 16 free throws. Jill Faust and Alisha Harrell would chip in five points each for Unaka. University High was led by Priya Lewis with 13 points and Vania Ortiz with eight. With the win, the Lady Rangers raises their conference record to 2-4 and overall record to 7-16. University High drops to 0-6 in the conference and 1-21 overall.
In boy’s action, Landon Ramsey would score 24 points on the night but it wasn’t enough, as the Rangers fell to University High 64-56. A.J. Murphy would lead University to the conference win with 19 points, followed by Jordan Carter with 12. Unaka would be led by Ramsey’s 24 points, with Joe-Z Blamo pitching in 11 and Mason Wilson with nine. With the loss, Unaka drops to 1-5 in the conference and 4-20 overall. University High evens its conference record to 3-3 and 15-7 overall.
