Street closures announced for Happy Tails 5K Road Race

The Elizabethton Police Department has announced the following street closures for the Happy Tails 5K Road Race on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Motorists in the Downtown Elizabethton area are asked to use caution and patience Sunday afternoon near 2 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., police officers and volunteers with Friends of the Elizabethton Carter County Animal Shelter will be providing temporary traffic control at the intersections affected by the Happy Tails 5K Road Race. The race starts on Hattie, runs West to Doe, turns right in front of Harvest Baptist on East F to Elk, then right turn from Elk to South Riverside, then right on Oak, then leFt on Tweetsie Trail to the turnaround, then stays on the trail until Cedar Ave. then right turn running East on Hattie across the Covered Bridge to the Finish Line. The following streets closed during this time are Hattie, East Doe, East F, East Elk, South Riverside, Oak, and Third Street at the Park. Officers will have intermittent closures at the trail crossings on Peter Hampton Drive, Oak Street and South Sycamore, Johnson Avenue and Stateline, Sycamore and Hattie, and Sycamore and Elk. Volunteers will be assisting at all other intersections.
Due to multiple intersections, driveways, alleys, on-street parking, and parking lots, runners of the race are asked to maintain situational awareness and watch for vehicles on the closed streets. Any race participants still on the course at 3 p.m. should move to the sidewalks to complete the race.The temporary closures end at 3 p.m.
