The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scam phone calls occurring in our area. The release states that scammers are contacting people telling them they failed to report for jury duty and there is now a warrant for their arrest. “The Carter County Sheriff’s Office will not contact you by phone informing you that you missed jury duty and demanding that you turn yourself in,” Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said. “Neither my department nor my officers will ever contact you by phone asking for any kind of payment of fines or fees.”
If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to represent the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and asking for any kind of payment, do not give them any of your personal information, end the phone call, and contact your local police to report the incident.
