Newsboys will perform March 12 at Paramount Center for the Arts

The Newsboys will perform Sunday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Founded in 1985 in Australia, Newsboys now reside in Nashville and continue a long legacy of great music and huge hits. Nearly 40 years later, the Newsboys continue to be one of the most popular bands in the Christian music industry.
In 2000, they helped start and headlined the annual, traveling CCM festival Festival Con Dios with Audio Adrenaline and The O.C. Supertones. It was known for featuring popular Christian bands and its motocross stunts. Steve Taylor has produced many of their hit albums, and several of the songs he has worked on with the band (such as Breakfast, Take Me To Your Leader) feature Taylor’s humor and quaint lyrics.
To date, Newsboys has sold over 6 million albums, minted five gold records, charted more than 25 No. 1 radio hits and earned four Grammy nominations. Newsboys are special in that they’ve always been about more than the people on stage.
For example, producer and singer/songwriter Steve Taylor doesn’t perform with the band, but he’s certainly part of the creative team. Proof of that lies with lead singer Michael Tait (formerly of the group dc Talk). Tait joined the band as the new lead singer in 2009, however, he’s also been a longtime member of the Newsboys family. Newsboys and dc Talk played over 100 shows together, rode in each other’s buses on tour and joined each other on stage. Tait can even be seen singing with the Newsboys on their 2002 DVD From The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and naturally he provided background vocals on In the Hands of God. Original member Peter Furler says the Newsboy’s future has never looked brighter. He added that their latest album, In the Hands of God, recaptures the emotional energy of their youth with songs that propel the band into the future. The album is an ensemble of creative sparks that prove that viscerally honest narratives can still be inspired rambunctious fun.
Tickets range from $36 to $98 and will be available on the day of the show for an extra $5. Tickets are available via paramountbristol.org or at the box office only.
