Vena Kathryn Estep Good, 93, Elizabethton, passed away March 30, 2023, at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton following a stroke. She was born on December 29, 1929 to Sherman and Pearle Asher Estep of Stoney Creek.
Vena moved with brothers to Ohio, and it was there she married Charles Thomas Good. They made their home in Monroe, Mich., where she took pride in raising their children. She returned to Elizabethton after they had grown and moved away. Raised in Holly Springs Free Will Baptist, she was also a past member of Monroe Missionary Baptist in Michigan.
Vena had a lifelong love of baseball, music, and was a fan of college basketball with March tournaments being her favorite times. Above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joseph Good; a granddaughter, Anna Grayson Sanders; brothers, Walter Howard Estep Sr. and John Wesley Estep; and sisters, Eller Estep, Eula Estep and Ethel Bowers.
Vena leaves behind a son, John (Margarita) Good; daughter, Cindy Norris; daughter-in-law, Deborah Good; five grandchildren, Rachael “Liz” (Don) Selby, Sean Good, Alex (Natelee) Good, Kathryn Sanders and Sarah Sanders; two special great-granddaughters, Piper and Riley Selby; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Sams officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery (Stoney Creek). Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The family would like to express a special thank you to the past and present caregivers of Hermitage Health Center for the excellent care she received during her stay there.
