April 23-29 is National Library Week this year and is a good time to remember the service the Elizabethton Public Library provides to the community. “Library programing bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, story times, lectures and helping job seekers.” Their staff have helped me in using the copier and in sending faxes.
The Bible makes the list of books most challenged at public libraries and public school libraries throughout America. The Bible is what all evil people and governments have tried through the ages to censor or ban. Not all public libraries are the same. Sadly, some parents and Christian groups have protested but yet some public libraries and public school libraries continue to push the Drag Queen Story Hour for children. Drag Queens, according to Dr. Jennifer O’Brien, “are when a male who is typically homosexual (gay), dresses and acts like a woman for the purpose of entertainment in nightclubs and bars. They dress in feminine clothing and with elaborate makeup and wigs.” Christians don’t believe that Drag Queens make good role models and shouldn’t be allowed to read to children. Geoffrey Grider said, “the repelling and repugnant ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ brings confusion and perversion to children across America.”
Though some psychologists don’t believe such behavior is abnormal, the Bible says dressing as the opposite sex is wrong. God calls it an abomination in Deuteronomy 22:5, “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.” One of the Houston, Texas Drag Queen readers was found to be a registered sex offender and not allowed to read after protest. The Lansdale, Pennsylvania Drag Queen Story Fun Time featured a Drag Queen who asked the children to call him “Annie Christ” – a play-on-words of “anti-Christ.”
Parents need to know what their children are reading to ensure they aren’t being indoctrinated or reading wicked or worthless books or articles. Some children’s books promote homosexuality. Some homosexual children’s books such as “Jack and Jim,” “And Tango Makes Three” “King & King” and “Heather has Two Mommies” are available and being checked out at most public libraries. Some books promoting transgenderism are “I am Jazz,” “Jacobs New Dress” and “My Princess Boy.” “I am Jazz” was also a T.V. show.
Take children to church, read Bible stories to children and take them to Vacation Bible School and Christian camps this summer. We have two great local camps in Camp Ta Pa Win Go in Watauga and Doe River Gorge Camp in Hampton. A pastor said make sure you keep yourself and your children’s face in the book – Bible – and not on Facebook. Don’t let children be on TikTok. In Ephesians 4:29 it says, “let no corrupt communication proceed out of your month, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearer.” In Psalms 101, King David said, “I will set no wicked (worthless) thing before mine eyes.” President John Adams correctly said, “The Bible is the best book in the world. It contains more than all the libraries I have seen!”
