JOHNSON CITY – Spring on any college campus is bustling with excitement as students attend end-of-semester events, finish their courses and look forward to commencement. East Tennessee State University’s campus is no different, with the feeling of celebration in the air.
On Tuesday, April 18, ETSU’s Department of Student Activities and Organizations (SAO) hosted its 21st annual Summit Awards.
The event, held in the D.P. Culp Student Center ballroom, recognized and celebrated students, faculty, staff and various campus programs for their achievements outside the classroom, on campus, and throughout the community.
The ceremony recognized award recipients in several categories including Student Organization Awards, Housing and Residence Life Awards, Fraternity and Sorority Leader Awards and Student Government Association Awards.
Awards in each category reflect the overall values of ETSU and honored recipients for traits like leadership, community service, campus improvement, professional development and mentorship.
ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academics Kimberly D. McCorkle and Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment Dr. Joe Sherlin were among those recognized at the ceremony, receiving the SGA Student Success Champion Award. The award is given to faculty and staff who go above and beyond to support student leaders in the SGA, and who are committed to developing students into citizens who will contribute to their campus, their community and their world.
“We look forward to celebrating student leaders, recognizing faculty and staff and championing campus programs every year,” said Carter Warden, director of Student Activities and Organizations. “It is so important to celebrate all the hard work that goes into making ETSU such a great place, and this event allows us to do just that.”
