The Lady Warriors wanted to make sure their seniors had a memorable night; they did their part by beating the Providence Academy Knights 15-1. Leading just 4-1 in the fourth inning, the Lady Warriors used 10 base knocks to score 11 runs to end the game in five.
The first inning started for the Lady Warriors with Aleah Grindstaff doing her job as lead-off and drawing a walk; Julie Nieminski reached on an error, followed by another walk by Ella Marvel. Reagan Street then roped a single to center to plate Grindstaff and Nieminski to make it 2-0 Warriors. Makayla Miller then hit a line drive into the gap in right, plating two more but was tossed out at second trying to stretch her hit into a double.
After the Knights pushed one across off a Warrior error, Happy Valley came into their bottom half of the fourth and left no doubt. The inning started once again with Grindstaff reaching on a perfectly placed bunt and Nieminski reaching on a roller to second. Marvel then blistered a ball to third that couldn’t be handled and Street once again hit a shot, this time a double, driving in two. Millier then followed with another double and Mailyah Green kept the offense rolling with a sharp grounder up the middle. All in all, the Lady Warriors sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning in the route. Street and Nieminski both had three hits in the contest, while Grindstaff, Marvel, Miller and Green all had two hits apiece and collected 16 hits altogether.
Marvel and Trinity Bowers shared duties on the mound going four innings and giving up just four hits and no earned runs. After the game, Head Coach Hunter Buchanan talked about wanting a strong showing for his seniors, “it was a great way to celebrate Senior Night Ella and Reagan have played a big part in this program for the last four years, so I was glad we could get that win to celebrate them, I thought we played well but missed some opportunities early some of our younger girls are starting to come around and we are seeing growth from them I was proud of what we did last night.”
The Lady Warriors will travel to the campus of ETSU to take on University High on Tuesday evening.
