GRAY/JOHNSON CITY – The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble will present “Come Fly With Me,” a concert that will lift your spirits, on May 12 and 13. The ensemble will perform at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 South Roan St., Johnson City, on Friday, May 12, and at Gray United Methodist Church, 2108 Oak St., Gray, on Saturday, May 13. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.
The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble is an all-male chorus of singers from throughout the greater Tri-Cities area. The choir was founded in 2013 and is dedicated to performing a wide range of choral repertoire – both sacred and secular – from the Renaissance to the present.
The program will feature songs from many genres inspired by the theme of flight. Highlights include “Come Fly with Me” arranged by Mac Huff, “The Arrow and the Song” by Joseph M. Martin, and Craig Courtney’s arrangement of “I’ll Fly Away.” The concert will open with a new arrangement of John Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Place,” written by local composer and pianist Steve Sensinig. Sensinig recently began work as the ensemble’s piano accompanist.
“We are excited to share this uplifting concert with our community,” said artistic director Noah DeLong. “From spirituals to jazz to original compositions, this concert will have something for everyone to enjoy.”
Donations will be accepted at the door, with suggested amounts of $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Additional information and concert updates can be found at www.appmensensemble.org and on Facebook.
