The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:9a, “For we are labourers together with God.” Paul is proclaiming that we work together with the Lord assisting us. Each year, we pray about a theme for our annual Back to School Bash. This year God continually impressed upon my heart the importance of working together, so the theme is “Better Together!” We can accomplish so much more when we pool our time, energy, resources, and efforts. We live in a world that is continually divided, and the only thing division creates is frustration and confusion. Also, nothing gets accomplished when we pull against one another. In fact, the Bibles says in Mark 3:25, “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” It is imperative that we all work together for the good of our community.
It is obvious that there’s plenty of issues and problems to solve. None of us have the expertise to solve these issues all on our own, and even if we did, who has time to do so. We are a body made up of many members. Each of our organs have a unique job to do. That’s the way God intended it to work. Each of us have diverse skills and talents. When we work together, we use our talents and gifts to serve one another with kindness, respect, and appreciation. Strong teams, just like strong bodies, are made up of interdependent members fulfilling defined tasks. There is no jealousy in teamwork. When the whole team is working for the glory of God, there is no internal competition. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 3:6, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” These men worked together and God blessed their efforts.
Jesus sent his disciples out in two member teams. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says, “9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” We need one another! Let’s choose to come together and help our community. Let’s choose to lay aside our differences and assist our broken community. I would like to conclude with some information about this year’s Back to School Bash.
The bash will be held at Hampton High School on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. We are in the planning stage and we want this upcoming year to be the best. We would love for you to join us. Each year, $25,000 is raised to ensure the supplies, attractions, and food can be purchased. We expect to assist 2,000 students. This day is so much more than students receiving a free packed backpack. We want it to be a memorable day for students, parents, and grandparents where they can frolic without any worries. If you, your church, or your business would like to volunteer, please reach out to me. Please think about joining us this year, and let’s do more together! We are BETTER TOGETHER!
