Harmony Freewill Baptist Church’s Back to School Bash Ministry is currently accepting donations for its upcoming annual Carter County Schools kickoff event. Harmony’s pastor, Brandon Young, said the ministry is in need of new shirts, socks, and underwear as well as gently used shoes to fill the 2,000 backpacks they anticipate handing out.
All children from preschool through twelfth grade are invited to attend the event with their families. “Every kid that shows up, walks away with a backpack,” Young said about the mission of the bash, each filled with clothing and other necessities for kids in attendance.
The ministry will be hosting its annual event for the 17th time on July 29th from 10-3. Young said the committee is planning a “huge” selection of activities, including a petting zoo and water balloon war. The festival is completely free and open to the public.
“Our theme this year is ‘Better Together,’” said Young, “We can do so much more together than we can do separate so we welcome everyone to be a part of it.”
For more information on donating for the upcoming event, interested parties are invited to contact Khristina Cardwell at 423-297-4504.
