Police alert public about street closures in downtown area Saturday

The Carter County Tourism series of bicycle races will be this weekend, resulting in street closures in the downtown area.
The Roan Groan Bicycle Race will begin this Saturday morning from Cat Island Park in staggered start times beginning at 9 AM.
 Elizabethton Police officers will temporally block traffic for the groups of bicycle racers as they begin the race to Roan Mountain at the following locations:  Main and East Elk at the Monument, East Elk and 19E and 19E and Siam Road.
 The Carter County Tourism cycling race will occur Sunday throughout the day.  Effected roadways will begin to be closed at 6:30 AM.  There will be different races beginning at 8 AM.  Races are scheduled to end and roadways are anticipated to be open by 6 PM.
 The race course will be on the following streets downtown:  Hattie Avenue, North and South Sycamore Street, East E Street, and North and South Riverside.
 Streets will be closed a block away from the race route to form an outer perimeter for the safety of the racers and spectators.
 Elizabethton Police officers at the closed intersections will assist race participants, spectators, affected residents, and those attending church services at First Christian Church on Hattie Avenue and Elizabethton Alliance Church on East Elk Avenue to park as needed.
