Robert Joseph Lizee was born in Potrerillos, Chile on June 13, 1939 to parents Maurice Lizee and Lois Elethura Lizee. His father worked for the Anaconda Copper Corporation and they came back to the US at the start of WWII. Bob was raised in Pompton Lakes and later Redbank, N.J., and later attended the SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, Bronx, N.Y. Bob retired as first mate as he served as a flight instructor for US Army pilots out of Fort Rucker, Ala., in 1965. Bob married Kichung Lee-Lizee in 1965 in NYC and they settled in Northern Wisconsin in the early ’70s after living in Alabama and California as Bob pursued a career as a commercial airline pilot.
Bob was a mercurial and curious person, with numerous talents and soon was asked to join a successful labor relations/management consulting firm for a few years before striking out on his own starting a labor relations consulting firm which took him all over the country. Bob was a leader in his field and was called upon to help negotiate a number of union contracts for many large companies associated with the Big 3 auto manufacturers and later Japanese auto manufacturers, meeting President Ford and then Gov. Bill Clinton during the course of his career. He was very active in the local community serving as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and helping to create a non-profit children’s art program.
Bob retired in the southeast, first North Carolina and later east Tennessee. Bob remarried in 2002 to Jane Floyd-Lizee and they lived a full life as retirees in Butler, Tenn. Robert passed away in Johnson City, Tenn., on July 30, 2023.
Robert is survived by his wife Jane and his two sons Ted and Zack. Services will be held in Parkton, N.C., on October 7, 2023.
