Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency (UETHDA) has received an extension of federal funds for its Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). With the original deadline of September 30, 2023, the program will now be accepting applications until March 31, 2024.
UETHDA is the designated administering agency for LIHWAP in the region. The program works to help low-income households with their residential water bill. LIHWAP can help with past and current water bills, disconnection and reconnection fees, and threats of disconnection.
“The water assistance program has helped households restore service for bills that had built up from the impact of the pandemic,” says Samantha Meade, Community Services Manager. “I am glad that we were able to assist them.”
Assistance is based on a priority points system. Those eligible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are also eligible for LIHWAP. The program’s availability is limited in the area; those interested can contact UETHDA or their water utility company to check eligibility. LIHWAP will provide assistance until funds run out.
