The US Forest Service plans to host a virtual public meeting Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. EST about red spruce – fir restoration efforts in the southern Appalachian states. Interested public can join online or by phone to learn more about the associated environmental assessment and participate in this analysis.

The Forest Service is beginning an environmental analysis that would outline various red spruce restoration practices in the Cherokee, Monongahela, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, and National Forests in North Carolina. The project aims to analyze multiple vegetation management techniques to create favorable conditions for red spruce in suitable habitat locations or known red spruce locations. Participants will learn about the forthcoming red spruce – fir restoration environmental assessment, the project process the Forest Service may pursue, and potential proposed actions. The public will have an opportunity to provide comments on this project.
