In a hard-fought game against Twin Springs, the Unaka Rangers fell 39-20 despite several big plays and moments that could have turned the tide. Unaka’s Connor McKinney had a standout performance, racking up 284 total yards and scoring two touchdowns, including an electrifying 77-yard punt return. However, the Rangers’ defense struggled to hold firm on crucial fourth downs, giving up three long touchdown plays that proved costly: runs of 86 yards, 65 yards, and another 86 yards, with two of those scores coming on fourth-and-long plays.
One of the game’s defining moments came when McKinney broke free for a 76-yard run, coming within five yards of pulling the Rangers within one score. Unfortunately, he fumbled on the 5-yard line, and the Titans recovered, swinging momentum in their favor. Despite McKinney’s impressive night, Unaka couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities, falling to 0-2 on the season.
The Rangers now look ahead to their next challenge as they travel to Cosby next Friday, eager to turn their season around.
