Roy Dayton Simerly, 71, of the Tiger Creek Community in Roan Mountain, passed away on November 9, 2024 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on February 20, 1953 to the late Lawrence Simerly and Lena B. Hill.
Roy was of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended Hopson Chapel Freewill Baptist until he was too sick to do so.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy C. Simerly.
Roy is survived by his children, a son, Gregory Simerly (Angela); daughters, Jolene E. Garland (Chris) and Vanessa Baker (Jason); and grandchildren, Joseph Simerly, Lance Baker and Elizabeth Simerly. Other survivors include Margaret Smith, Darlene Smith (Harold), Gladys Winfrey (James) and Lilly Belle Jarrett, Michael Simerly (Betty), Marshal Simerly, Jack Simerly (Lisa) and Lisa Holtsclaw, all of Hampton, Tenn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Roy Dayton Simerly will be held Thursday, November 14, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Highsmith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Chambers Cemetery in the Tiger Creek Community, located at the Hall Church. Active pallbearers will be Jason Baker, Jimmy Jarreth, Jeff Simerly, Johnny Simerly, Gary Quillen and Jeff Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Baker, Joseph Simerly, Chris Garland and other friends and family of the community.
