Nov. 16, 1935 – Jan. 29, 2025
Wilma Jean Bunton, Elizabethton, returned to her home with God on Jan. 29, 2025. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Bunton Schilling, and her mother, Letha Campbell.
She leaves behind one daughter, Joyce Bunton; three grandchildren, Todd Bowling, Taylor McKinney, and Angie McClaskey; three great-grandchildren, Arianna Smith, Hunter McClaskey, and Brenlynn Bowling; and three great-great-grandchildren, Dustin Smith, Walker Smith, and Mason Smith.
She was known as Mammy, Granny, and Mom by many who loved her. She was definitely an original, known to be a little feisty in her later years, much like her mother, Letha Campbell. Born and raised in Butler, Tenn., she was no stranger to hard times, but she often shared stories about the good times she had as a little girl playing with her sister, Georgia, whom she always referred to as “Sis.” Wilma loved her family and was always ready to brag about them to anyone. She will be missed by many.
If her life teaches us anything, it would be this: Look beyond your judgments of others to see that we are all doing the best we can with the cards we have been dealt. Show compassion to others because we all truly only desire to be loved.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, in Norris Cemetery, Butler. Her granddaughter, Angie, will be speaking. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday.
A special thank you to all the staff at NHC Healthcare for taking such good care of her. Wilma’s body will be laid to rest beside her mother, Letha, at the Norris family cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
