Geraldine Taylor Woods, 91, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at her home.
Geraldine was born in Butler, Tenn., and was a daughter of the late Emma and Joe E. Taylor.
Mrs. Woods was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church, Elizabethton. She taught school for 42 years starting at Buladeen, Unaka Elementary, and ending her career at Hunter Elementary School. Geraldine was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, teacher, and friend to all who knew her. She loved her family and was so proud of each of them. Holiday celebrations and meals with family were so important to her. She and her husband loved to garden, can and freeze their bounty and then share it with family, friends, or whoever happened to come visit that day.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Lloyd Grindstaff, Ronald Kelly and Kenneth Woods.
Survivors include her husband, Luther Woods; a son, David Woods (Debbie); a granddaughter, Amber Woods; a great-grandson, Adrian Woods; a great-granddaughter, Ellee Woods; brother, Ronnie Taylor (Loretta); sisters, Arrie Jo Grindstaff (Lloyd) and Hazel Ellis (Bill); sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Woods Kelly (Ronald), Judy Smith (Jerry) and Janice Woods (Kenneth); and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Woods will be held Monday, February 3, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Steven Davis and Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Hill, Alan Grindstaff, Brian Kelly, James Harmon, Charles Marinella and Jeff Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Nidiffer and Jerry Smith. Graveside will follow at the Taylor Cemetery, Rome Hollow, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Stoney Creek Baptist Church, 1843 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
