Janie Barnes Caldwell, 63, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. Janie was born in Johnson City on August 4, 1961 to the late Bill and Erma Vance Barnes. In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Geneva Vance, and aunt, Nadine Vance.
Janie had been employed as a customer service representative and was of the Baptist faith. Janie had a very strong faith in God and the absolute biggest heart in the world and selflessly gave to anyone in need. She loved sewing and crafts, spending time with her family and babysitting her great-niece, Tesla.
Those left to cherish and remember Janie include her beloved husband of 48 years, Danny Caldwell; her children, Jennifer (Steven) Caldwell of Roanoke, Va., and Ashley Caldwell of Johnson City; two sisters, Louise Barnes of Johnson City and Ruth Barnes of Greeneville; two brothers, Joe Jones of Columbia, Tenn., and Cliff (Amy) Barnes of Johnson City; two nieces, Erma Gunzenhauser of Chuckey, Tenn., and Nikki Workman of Johnson City; a nephew, Ronnie Hyder of Johnson City; and special friends, Janie and Cary.
A celebration of Janie’s life will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 7, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Zack Gunzenhauser, Shannon Leach, Artie Irwin, Dennis Verble, Caleb Foster and Brent Cupp. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Diabetes Association/ Tennessee Chapter, P.O.
