The Lady Warriors started their season with a trip to Wing Deer Park to take on the Lady Bucs in a nonconference matchup Monday evening. Unfortunately, when the dust settled, a number of defensive miscues prevented the Lady Warriors from keeping pace in this one.
The Warriors got on the board first as Miley Miller took advantage of a passed ball at the plate and scampered home to make it 1-0. But the Lady Bucs responded with five runs of their own as they strung together five singles and a couple of Lady Warriors errors to make it 5-1 after the first inning.
They then scored five in the second and three in the third to create a large cushion. The Lady Warriors came up with a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game as Miller and Alex Moore stole a couple of bases after getting free passes and then scampered home after McKenzie Skeans hit a ground ball to short, and the UH first baseman couldn’t handle the throw.
The Lady Bucs ended the game with a couple of runs in the bottom to seal the win. Natalie Cline and Dani Lingerfelt had base hits in the game for the Lady Warriors, while Miller scored two runs. Trinity Bowers went the distance on the rubber for the Warriors, striking out five batters while giving up seven earned runs off nine hits.
The Lady Warriors will host South Greene on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
