The Friends of the Library will hold their annual book sale Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elizabethton Recreation Center, 300 W. Mill St.
A Friends of the Library members-only sale will be Thursday, March 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. There is a $10 fee to join at the door.
Funds are raised through the library’s fall and spring book sales.
Also, the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library’s Seed Library is back. Library patrons are invited to grab seeds for the upcoming gardening season. The library has vegetable, herb, and flower seeds available.
Visitors to the library can pick up three seed packets per week throughout this year’s planting season. A variety of produce is planned to be available, with a selection of seeds suited for all experience levels.
“The majority of people in the U.S. don’t grow their own food, but instead buy from supermarkets,” a release from ECCPL said. “Also, most children have no idea where their food comes from, let alone how to grow plants from seeds.”
Library staff hope that local gardeners will contribute their own seeds to help new growers get started. “Once your garden blooms, you’re encouraged to harvest seeds from healthy plants and bring them back to the Seed Library.”
