Local veteran enters ETSU athletics hall of fame

State Congressmen Rusty Crowe and John Holsclaw honored David Holtsclaw, who recently entered the ETSU Athletics Hall of Fame for his performance as a football player at Hampton High School and in college.

The proclamation they brought said the “Hampton Hammer’s” high school exploits included rushing 1,400 yards as a senior.

The proclamation also honored his service in the Marines before his journey to ETSU to play football for them.

“David Holtsclaw dedicated his passion, leadership, and commitment to the pursuit of excellence as he coached football at David Crockett High School in Virginia,” it reads.

During his career at ETSU, Holtsclaw helped earn a share of the Ohio Valley Conference championship in 1962, was a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection and a Little All-American in 1964.

Holtsclaw received a framed copy of the proclamation on Friday morning in front of the VFW.
