Candidates for the upcoming municipal election will have the chance to share their backgrounds before the Nov. 4 election date.
The Legislative Affairs Committee of the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at T.A. Dugger Junior High School.
Chamber of Commerce Director Tonya Stevens said the forum is open to candidates for Elizabethton City Council, Elizabethton Board of Education and Watauga City Commission.
Each candidate will have three to six minutes to speak concerning their experience, qualifications and goals for the desired office.
“We want to give people the opportunity to share who they are, their goals and objectives and experience they may have in situations that would apply to the office they are seeking,” Stevens said. “It will give people an opportunity to get to know who their candidates are.”
A reception with light refreshments will follow the forum.
“There is not a formal time for questions during the forum,” Stevens said. “The reception will give the public the opportunity to ask the candidates any specific questions they might have.”
The forum is free and open to the public.
