When Santa is making his list and checking it twice this year, he might need a little help collecting gifts for all the cats and dogs at the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter.
Luckily for all those pets, the employees at Petsense in Elizabethton are hosting a Claus for Paws supply drive to help with the needs of the animal shelter.
The public is invited to make donations to the shelter in the big donation box in the store.
Petsense manager Scott Campbell said the drive was part of the chain’s focus on helping out the community and the local locations partnership with the ECCAS. Petsense helps the shelter with adoptions by housing cats in an adoption center in the store.
“This is for donations for either cats or dogs,” Campbell said. “We are asking for supplies that are needed for the shelter and they use on a daily basis.”
Petsense night manager Shelia Akin has been leading up drive efforts for the ECCAS.
“I know the shelter could always use any supplies people want to donate,” Akin said.
Suggested donations are blankets, towels, cage liners, toys, food or money that can be used by shelter staff to buy what is needed.
ECCAS Director April Jones also requested donations of empty, unwashed peanut butter jars.
“Those are what we ask for the most but what we receive the least,” Jones said. “Those make great dog toys that they will play with for hours.”
Jones said the peanut butter jars could be dropped off at the shelter.
Jones said the drive helped the shelter by collecting supplies that are much needed.
“It is more convenient for people to drop things there,” she said. “Some people might not know where we are but they do Petsense.”
Petsense is located at 776 W Elk Ave. in the Ingles Shopping Center.
