David Wayne Humphrey, 54, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 24, 2015, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bill and Ruth Chesser Humphrey.
David was a 1978 graduate of Happy Valley High School and an employee of AYM Corporation. He attended Woodby Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
David was a very loving husband. He was a NASCAR and Miami Dolphin Fan. He also loved to bowl.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Edwina Simerly-Humphrey, and a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Douglas, Telford. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for David Wayne Humphrey will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alex Carver and the Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. Music will be provided by No Name But His. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, in the Lyons Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Greg Willis, Danny Simerly, Edward Ward, Shane Singleton, John Baker, Edward Simerly, Jerry Douglas, Troy Paul Upchurch and Curtis Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of AYM Corporation and employees of the Carter County Health Department. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Carter County Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
