Students have sold tickets, and the Parent Teacher Organization is excited to announce the annual T.A. Dugger Junior High Bean Supper. It will take place from 3-6:30 p.m. on Friday before the 7:30 p.m. Elizabethton High School homecoming game against West Greene High School.
For only $4, diners indulge in soup beans, cornbread, cole slaw, beverages, corn dogs, chips and cookies. To-go orders may be picked up in the auditorium and dine-in orders will be located in the cafeteria.
Principal Randy Little said it is their only fundraiser and the most important thing they do to raise money for students. It typically brings in between $15,000 and $17,000 to fund technology upgrades and programs.
“It goes to support any technology in our school, which we’re trying to increase as much as possible to benefit our students,” said Little.
The school recently purchased all new computers for teachers that support Smart Board software, which makes updated interactive learning possible for students.
Tickets are available at the door, but students have sold hundreds already. Each student was given 10 tickets to sell, and instructed to return unsold tickets. PTO President Rachel Williams said she feels that this teaches fiscal management skills and responsibility.
“This annual event takes many sponsors to make happen,” said Williams. “We have over 40 businesses that have taken the time to help make this event successful by donating essential food items needed, and monetary donations have also been given.”
