When it comes to education, a group of local children recently had the opportunity to have some fun with some “duck” tape.
The Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center hosted the “Duck Tape Creation Party” for homeschool children this week. The event was sponsored by Macaroni Kid Tri-Cities.
Jilian Reece, CCDP director, said the event was a fun time for children as they were encouraged to make “something educational or that had never been created before” out of the duck tape – a form a duct tape produced by ShurTech Brands. Students created different items, which include a solar system, volcano, holder for band flags, bags, and other items.
The event, according to Amanda Hollifield, was in conjunction with the company’s national campaign titled “Duck Tape Makers” – a do-it-yourself (DIY) initiative organized to help encourage creativity for children and parents alike.
It is events like the party that come naturally for Hollifield, who serves as the publisher of Macaroni Kid Tri-Cities.
The local chapter of the nationwide organization that “was founded with two very distinct goals: enrich communities and empower moms. We call it “E2” and it is the driving force behind all that we do,” by providing hyper-local newsletters and stories for events going on locally.
Hollifield added she serves Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and that the website features a calendar of events that families can participate in.
The site is free to view, and individuals can sign up to receive a free newsletter every Wednesday.
