The Governor’s Books From Birth Foundation is turning 10 this October and all local Imagination Library chapters have been invited to join the party.

Carter County Imagination Library Chair Lilo Duncan brought the invitation to the CCIL board as they started working to plan the local celebration event.

Duncan said foundation president Theresa Carl offered to send the foundation’s “Magic Bus” to any local event if the CCIL would like it. The bus will include special guests, music and giveaways to complement whatever the local Imagination Libraries had planned.

“We need to have an event and they will bring the bus and help us with registrations,” Duncan said.
Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library Director Mel Goff suggested the CCIL use the city’s park system for hosting the event.

“The city has great parks,” Goff said. “We should take advantage of them.”

ECCPL Children’s Librarian Ashlee Williams pointed out the CCIL 10th anniversary was coming up in May 2015.
Duncan said the CCIL would receive the bus on a date between Sept. 6-20. She said as soon as they contacted the state organization to let it know they were interested, a date would be set for when the “Magic Bus” would be coming to Carter County.

Once a firm date is set, the CCIL can set further plans for the celebration.

The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation joined with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 2004 in an effort to provide every child in Tennessee with a free book each month from birth until age 5.
