A concerned woman’s call for help on Tuesday led to multiple charges against three Hampton men after they were accused of using drugs in the presence of a toddler.
After a female resident contacted a constable, who in turn contacted the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Nick Andes went to a home at 225 Swimming Pool Road.
Andes wrote in an incident report that after the woman gave him permission to go into the home, he approached it and heard three distinct male voices and the voice of a toddler through an open window. He said he knocked and that no one came to the door, but that he heard movement and the sound of footsteps inside. He said he knocked again, identified himself and asked that the door be opened.
This time, he said, he heard more thudding and movement.
“Fearing that the subjects were destroying evidence, and that the small child could be endangered further, I opened the front door and made entry,” he wrote.
After he went inside, he had three men come out one at a time, and searched them for weapons.
Andes reported he found a pill fob attached to keys in Tyler Edwards’ pocket, along with cash. He said that inside the fob was a small plastic bag, containing what he said appeared to be methamphetamine. Under the plastic bag were several pills Edwards was reported as describing as nerve pills or Xanax. Andes also reported finding a purple bag on Edwards containing several small bags of marijuana.
No items were recovered from either of the other men during the pat-down searches.
Inside the home, Andes reported seeing a partial Suboxone pill out in the open. In the room where the men were first found, Andes wrote he found methamphetamine smoking pipes, cut straws and syringes under the mattress. He also reported finding a bag containing coffee filters “with methamphetamine residue” on them.
In addition, Andes said he found a Garmin GPS and several jewelry items that were found to be stolen. He said brass knuckles, knives and other items were also recovered.
Tyler Nathaniel Edwards, 21, 225 Swimming Pool Road, was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule III drugs, possession of Schedule IV drugs, possession of Schedule VI drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless endangerment.
Cody Alan Edwards, 26, 104 Carl Smith Road, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment and served with a warrant charging him with violation of probation.
Larry Lyons, 30, 225 Swimming Pool Road, Hampton, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless endangerment.
