They’re planning a Party at the Park … Roan Mountain Community Park, that is.
The party to benefit the Cloudland High School Marching Band will be held July 5 from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Park in Roan Mountain.
Erik Anderson, president of the Roan Mountain Recreation Foundation, attended a recent meeting of the Carter County Parks and Recreation Committee to update members on activities at the park, and filled them in on the upcoming event.
He said nine bands have volunteered to play at the event and there will also be food and other items for sale. However, all the money raised will go to the Cloudland High School Marching Band, Anderson said.
The event will include a Frisbee golf tournament, as well as old-fashioned games such as sack races, horseshoes, a pie eating contest and three-legged races. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes featuring items donated by local businesses.
According to Anderson, this event came together through the efforts of the community.
“Roan Mountain people wanted to do something for the people of Roan Mountain,” he said. “Your county park has a lot of support from the community where it is located, and this is evidence.”
Anderson said he has received a tremendous amount of support for the event from businesses located in the Roan Mountain community as well as from individuals volunteering to help out.
