Two teenagers have been arrested and police are searching for a third person after a woman reported being assaulted with a pickaxe earlier this month.
Savannah Lovette, 18, of 219 Taylor Ave., and Candace Greene, 19, of 216 Minton Hollow Road, were both arrested by officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday on warrants charging each of them with one count of aggravated assault. A warrant has been issued for a third suspect, who has not yet been arrested.
According to the arrest warrants obtained by Investigator Tonya Range, the Sheriff’s Department began an investigation into the incident after she spoke to the complainant about what happened in the early morning hours on Sunday, June 15.
Range states in the warrant that the complainant reported she and several friends were at a residence on Judge Ben Allen Road “talking and playing games” and that she and three friends were leaving the residence shortly after midnight when the incident occurred.
“She stated she attempted to make her way to her vehicle when she heard Savannah Lovette yell, ‘Hold up!’ (The complainant) stated she turned to see Savannah Lovette holding a pickaxe approaching her along with Candace Greene, who was holding a pipe or sword, and (the third suspect),” states Range in the warrant. “(The complainant) said she told Ms. Lovette to drop the pickaxe so it would be a ‘fair fight’ at which point Ms. Lovette struck (the complainant), making contact in the right knee, later requiring stitches.”
Range said in the warrant that the complainant reported after she was struck by Lovette that Greene and the third suspect then began striking her as well.
“(The complainant) stated that at one point someone placed something around her neck trying to strangulate her,” Range said in the warrant. “She stated she was beaten to the point of unconsciousness twice.”
Range said in the warrant that the complainant said after the incident she was transported by one of her friends to the residence of a relative, who then drove her to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment of her injuries, where law enforcement officers were contacted.
“(The complainant’s) injuries required stitches to her right knee,” Range said in the warrant. “She is also under a physician’s care for possible permanent retina damage to her right eye.”

Lovette and Greene were transported to the Carter County Detention Center after their arrest, but both were later released on bond.
