August voter registration deadline looms

Tick, tock, tick, tock.
The clock is counting down for Carter County residents to register to vote in the Aug. 7 election.
Carter County Election Administrator Tracy Harris is encouraging anyone who hasn’t registered but who wants to vote in the August election to do so now.
The deadline to register and still be eligible to vote in the Aug. 7 county general election is next Tuesday, July 8.
Harris said people who have moved to Carter County and haven’t updated their addresses, as well as first-time voters, will need to complete the voter registration process.
“Voter registration in Tennessee is by county, and if you have moved into Carter County, you are required to complete a new voter registration application before the registration deadline,” Harris said.
Voter registration information can be picked up at the Carter County Election Office, the County Clerk’s office, the Register of Deeds office, the Department of Safety, post offices and public libraries.
Voters can check their voting status or print an application to register to vote at the state website: http://state.tn.us/sos/election. The application should be completed in blue or black ink.
Citizens are not registered voters in Carter County until they receive a voter registration card.
