William “Ernie” Killen Jr.

William “Ernie” Killen Jr. passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Erwin Healthcare Center. He was born August 4, 1937 in Limestone, Tenn., to the late William and Louise Balle Killen. Although he was a native of Limestone, he lived in the area of Johnson City for most of his life.
William graduated from Washington College Academy and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from ETSU. He served eight years in the Army and achieved the rank of Captain.
William was Christian. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, baseball, listening to Gospel music and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, R.A. and Nita Balle; brother, Roger Killen; and sister, Patsy Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Linda E. Killen; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Robert Riggs; son, Jesse Eller and wife, Anita; grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden Eller and Dalton Riggs; sisters-in-law, Linda W. Killen, Rhoda Reeme, Virginia Hughes and Carolyn Shelley; brother-in-law, Billy Townsend and wife, Reba; niece, Angel and husband, Joe Folk; nephew, Brian Killen; special sister-in-law, Mary Mosley; special niece, Denise Matthews; and many other family members.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Erwin Healthcare Center, especially the director of nursing and special friend, Brenda “Susie” Hutchings, for all of their loving care.
The funeral service for Mr. Killen will be held at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 24, at 6 p.m. The receiving of friends will follow the service. Pastor Tim Carlson and Pastor Gene Cornett will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
