Glenda Caye Taylor Buckles

Glenda Caye Taylor Buckles, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014, at her residence.
She was a native of Carter County, Tenn., and a daughter of the late Herbert and Lena Peters Taylor.
Mrs. Buckles retired as a cook from Unaka Elementary School and was a member of Unaka Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also affectionately known as the “Queen of Mean” to her Chicken Foot buddies.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ralph Buckles, of the home; daughter, Lena Bowman and husband Gene of Elizabethton; sons, Dayton Buckles and wife Kim of Elizabethton, Ralph LaRoy Buckles and wife Amy of Stanfield, N.C., and Naaman Buckles of Elizabethton; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolly Carol Taylor of Greeneville, Tenn., and Shelia Groce and husband Robert of Elizabethton; brothers, Norman Taylor and wife Betty of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Gene Taylor and wife Brenda of Simpsonville, S.C.; and special friends, her Sunday School Class and her Chicken Foot buddies. Several nieces and nephews also survive
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Buckles will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Unaka Baptist Church with Rev. Walker Roberson officiating. Music will be provided by Curt Carrier. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the church fellowship hall. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Rusty Verran, Tommy Verran, Doug Stevens, Stephen Fair, Waco Campbell and Shane Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, and the deacons and trustees of Unaka Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend the service on Friday are asked to meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
