One of two teens charged in the July death of a Roan Mountain man has been transferred to another detention center for a court appearance in another county.
Carter County Sheriff’s Chris Mathes confirmed that Demetrice Cordell, 19, of Roan Mountain had been transferred from the Carter County Detention Center to the Sullivan County Detention Center on Thursday.
“He has a court order for a court appearance in Sullivan County,” Mathes said. “He will be coming right back.”
After the arrest of Cordell and his co-defendant, 18-year-old Anthony Lacy, Mathes encouraged members of the community who have concerns over the release of Lacy and Cordell, or any other inmate of the Carter County Detention Center, to use the Victim Information and Notification Everyday, or VINE, program to register to receive alerts when an inmate is released. The VINE program allows a person to register anonymously to receive updates on the custody status of the offender through automated phone calls, text messages, e-mails or through the program’s mobile app available for smart phones.
Those who used the VINE program to register for notification on Cordell should have received an alert from the program on Thursday informing them Cordell had been transferred from the Carter County Detention Center to another facility.
Anyone who wishes to register to receive custody status updates on an inmate of the Carter County Detention Center can do so through the department’s website at www.sheriff.cc.
