Lyndell Elliott White

Lyndell Elliott White, age 93, resident of Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton, passed away at Sycamore Shoals Hospital Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014. She was born Dec. 29, 1920, in the Siam Community of Carter County to John Archer and Ruth Emmaline Nave Elliott. She taught school at the Old Horseshoe one-room schoolhouse and also at the school in Siam. She left her job of teaching and moved to Washington, D.C., and worked in the Post Office for several years. She retired from The Army Mapping Service in Washington.
She returned to her roots in Carter County in 1954. She loved and was dedicated to her nieces and nephews. Lyndell was a loyal member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She was formerly a member of Siam Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and also the Republican Women’s Party.
In addition to her parents, Lyndell was preceded in death by her husband, Earl White; seven brothers: Earl, Paul, Floyd, Herman, Clay, Wayne and Fred Elliott; and two sisters, Honor Miles and Chloe Hardin. Surviving family includes eight nieces: Judy Hastings, Brenda Vanhuss, Linda Elliott, Anne Elliott, Cindy Nichols, Sandy Miller, Kathy Dula and Karen Patton; and 10 nephews: Jerry Elliott, Glenn Elliott, Johnny Hardin, Joe Hardin, Gary Elliott, Wayne Elliott, Terry Elliott, Phil Elliott, Ricky Elliott and Tommy Miles.
A service to honor the life of Lyndell Elliott White will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Bill Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Entombment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park, the Mausoleum of Hope. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
