Mary “Granny” English, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret Younce Campbell.
Mrs. English was retired and was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. She loved to work in her garden and fish.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Dean Matheson; a brother, Paul Campbell; and a sister, Beulah Dean Campbell.
Survivors include two children, Allen Matheson and wife Suzanne, Mountain City, and Glenda English and husband Ronnie Radford, Elizabethton; and eight grandchildren, Allen Matheson Jr. and wife Rachelle, William George Matheson, Gregory Lee Matheson and wife Kim, Shatonna Ward and husband Mike, Jason Matheson and wife Krista, Shaun Matheson, Stephanie Matheson and Darrell Matheson. Eight great-grandchildren and one niece also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary English will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Edwards, the Rev. Ronnie Campbell and the Rev. Sam Icenhour officiating. Music will be provided by Carson Peters. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Mountain States Hospice. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence. It was her wish to be cremated.
