Romeda Sue Garland

Romeda Sue “Granny” Garland, 72, of 374 Reece Hill Road, Mountain City, Tenn., passed away at her residence on Wednesday, August, 27, 2014, following an extended illness.
She was a native of Hampton, Tenn. She was born July 20, 1942, to the late Clyde Clark and Laura Lyons Clark.
Romeda was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Her hobbies included cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was a previous member of the Butler Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by granddaughter, Patricia Ann Burrell; son-in-law, Dave Burrell; sister, Jean Cable; and brother, Doyle Clark.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert “Bob” Garland; daughters, Kathy Burrell of Johnson City, Tenn., and Ann Proffitt and husband Greg of Mountain City, Tenn.; granddaughter and caregiver, Amanda Potter and husband Dwayne; grandchildren, Carrie and Billy Reece of Trade, Tenn., and Nichole Proffitt of Mountain City, Tenn.; great-grandchildren who were her world, Madison, Mason and MaKenna Potter; sisters, Rachel Harr and Deborah Stout; step-grandchildren, Kathy Beam and husband Ray and David Burrell and wife Lisa; and brothers, Rondal Stephens, Ralph Stevens, Dallas Clark and Danny Clark. Special friends, Georgia Nell Pierce, Leta Lewis, Lois Snyder and Sue Welch, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Garland will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 28, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Morefield officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 29, at Dry Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dwayne Potter, Mason Potter, Billy Reece, Jonathan Walker, Junior Stevens and Coleman Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Snyder and Steve Hodge. The family would like to extend a special thank you to granddaughter, Amanda, for all her caregiving and for being there every step of the way.
