Henry E. Shuttle Jr., 92, of Hampton, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Henry was born on July 15, 1922 in Sullivan County, Tenn., to the late Henry E. Shuttle Sr. and Sudie Frances Jeter Shuttle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Greenwell, in September 2005; two brothers, Paul W. Shuttle and Billie D. Shuttle; a sister, Ruth Morrell; and a step-son, Willard Greenwell.
Mr. Shuttle worked and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a charter member of Bluff City Chapter #414 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Zollicoffer Lodge #444 of Bluff City, Tenn., and regularly attended Hampton Masonic Lodge. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II and served overseas in Okinawa. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one niece, Lisa Shuttle; three nephews, Richard and Jeff Shuttle and Jonathan Morrell; Gladys’ son, Willard Hollis Greenwell; step-grandsons, Dave Greenwell and wife Amy, and Jimmy Greenwell; his good friends, Hollis and Joyce Cable, Hampton, Tenn.; and his neighbor, D.L. Stevens, Hampton, Tenn.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Henry E. Shuttle Jr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 4, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Terry Dugger officiating. A Masonic service will follow the funeral service. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Greenwell, David Greenwell, Tim Cable, Jonathan Morrell, Richard Shuttle, Jeff Shuttle and James D. Cable. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the charity of your choice, in memory of Mr. Shuttle.
