BREAKING NEWS: Part of west end shut blocked off after construction company breaks gas main

Part of Elizabethton’s west end was blocked off to traffic after a construction crew working at a city church struck a gas main while working causing a gas leak in the area.

Elizabethton Police Department and Elizabethton Fire Department were on scene Friday morning around 8:15 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church located at 205 Hunter Lane. An employee with the construction company called 911 and reported a crew working at church had struck and cut a gas main line.

Several streets surrounding the church were closed to traffic, including Carter Boulevard and Hunter Avenue for approximately half an hour.

Fire Department personnel on scene notified the 911 Communications Center at approximately 8:45 that employees of Atmos Energy had arrived on scene and the gas leak had been stopped.
