John Young went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2014, at his home in Medford, Ore.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John C. Young Sr. and Jane Matilda Young.
After his retirement from the newspaper in Medford, Ore., Mr. Young made his home part time in Medford and Carter County and attended Brick Christian Church when in Tennessee. He attended Happy Valley High School and served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Mottern Young, Watauga, Tenn.; son, James Young, daughter Jane Jones and husband Bill, daughter, Judith Mobbs, all of Medford, Ore.; two granddaughters, Sara Nabarrota, Reno, Nev., Tarah Mobbs, Medford, Ore., step-son, Joe Mottern and wife Vickey, step-son, James Timothy Mottern and wife Deborah, step-daughter, Jill Mottern Stout and husband Steve, Carter County, Tenn.; step-grandchildren, Faith Mottern Jimenez, Joey Mottern, Darkus Bowers and Jamalia Mottern; and nine great-grandchildren.
The services were conducted in Medford, Ore., on Thursday, Sept. 25.
