William Phillip Messer

William Phillip Messer, 71, of Hampton, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Kentucky but had lived in Carter County for 69 years.
Mr. Messer was a retired Pipe Fitter and a member of Local 538. He was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Martha Sue Tate Messer; a daughter, Beverly and Howard Guinn, Hampton; a son, Tracey and Michelle Bellamy, Hiltons, Va.; his grandchildren, Christa Hughes and Scott Fleenor, both of Hampton; his great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Braydon Hughes and Lyncoln Fleenor, all of Hampton; his sisters, Jeannie and Travis Funk, Kingsport, Tona Barklou, Austin, Texas, Joanna Bishop, Snyder, Texas, and Carlos Messer, San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Messer will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Penny Bowers. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, will be Travis Funk, Johnny Gentry, Jason Honeycutt, Scott Fleenor, Howard Guinn and Roger Ellison. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Local 538. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
