While upcoming elections are a month away, the deadline to register is just around the corner.
Carter County Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris said if residents want to participate in the Nov. 4 election, the deadline to register is Oct. 6.
Voter registration forms can be picked up at a variety of places, Harris said, including post offices, the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library, the Election Office, the Department of Human Services, the Carter County Health Department and at the Department of Safety office in Carter County. The form is also available to download online at http://state.tn.us/sos/election/ss-3010.pdf.
Once the form is filled out it can be dropped off in person at the Election Office, which is located on the second floor of the Carter County Courthouse. Harris said registration forms can also be mailed to the office using the following address: Carter County Election Commission; 801 E. Elk Ave., Room 207; Elizabethton, TN 37643.
According to Harris, those registering to vote do not need to present identification at the time they register. “They don’t really need anything with them in order to register since they need a Tennessee or federal photo ID in order to vote,” she said. “But it’s good to have their photo ID with them in case they need to vote by mail. Otherwise they will have to vote in person for the first time before being allowed to vote by mail.”
